How this coat prints
A shepherd is a two-colour dog, which makes it one of the most striking things to print — a hard boundary between black and tan does more work on fabric than any amount of subtle shading. The risk runs the other way: on a black shirt, the black saddle merges into the garment and the dog can look like a floating tan face. Lighter shirts keep the whole animal.
The photo to use
Shoot from the front and slightly low so both erect ears are fully in frame — a shepherd photographed from above gets its ears foreshortened into stubs, and those ears are the outline everyone recognises. Even light matters more here than most breeds: harsh sun deepens the mask into a black hole where the eyes should be.
