What is in the scene
Your dog is drawn as a cream engraving-and-stipple portrait, head and chest, with a big open-mouthed smile, set inside a large five-point star outline made of bold red, white and light-blue stripes. Small flat stars in red and cream are scattered around it. The portrait is drawn rather than photographed: the fur is built from fine cream strokes and dots, and at the bottom the chest dissolves into stipple.
The photo that gets the best Star-Spangled
Everything here points at the grin, so the open-mouthed, happy photo is the one to use, tongue out welcome. Face-on, ears in frame, in good daylight: the engraving is made from the light and dark in your photo, and a well-lit face gives the crispest strokes. A calm photo still works, but the star was made to frame a smile.

How it prints
True navy is Star-Spangled's own shirt, and a clever one: the red, cream and light-blue stripes sit on a blue field, so the shirt itself finishes the flag colours. The print is keyed, with nothing printed where the artwork is dark - the shadows inside the engraving are navy fabric, and the stipple at the chest fades out as separate dots. Black is the punchier alternative if you want the stripes to hit harder.
